Jean-Louis Denois 'Les Garrigues' Pays d'Oc 2021
This is the Bordeaux-meets-Rhône blend you never knew you wanted. Jean-Louis Denois is an iconoclast, as independently-minded and attentive to the character of the terroir in which he cultivates his grapes as anyone we’ve encountered. He creates consistently unique wines with brilliantly rendered fruit from a medley of grapes, and the 2020 Les Garrigues named for the uncultivated thyme and rosemary scrub that grows everywhere there-is an expressive blend of Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The beauty of Denois' source vineyards is that they lie between the Mediterranean and Atlantic where they see the influence of both weather patterns. This creates diverse microclimates where you can successfully grow all these grapes with true varietal character. Hearty but not heavy, enjoy this delicious mash-up with foods like roast pork, grilled chops over roasted fennel and potatoes, or maybe ahi tuna with tapenade. A remarkable wine for all occasions, and all budgets.
