On the 4th of September 2022, we picked the Pinot Blanc & Chardonnay from Weingut Nägele in Baden. 40 year old vines on clay and calcareous soil, farmed organically.
The grapes were left in the cold over night performing a cold maceration. On the 5th of September we pressed the grapes and transferred the juice into 500L barrels to ferment and age.
This year we have decided not to disgorge the wine. Meaning the yeast particles are still inside the bottle. This will not harm you, but your wine may look a little cloudy.
Green apple, creamy mouthfeel, lots of little bubbles all over the tongue, slightly wild."
About the Producer: "Antoine is originally from Marseille. He studied oenology at the winemaking school in Alsace, France. After some years working for different wineries in Germany such as Sekthaus Griesel and Domaine Brand et Fils in France, he joined forces with SOMA to begin making his own range of low-intervention wines. Daisy is originally from Norwich, UK. After years of working in the hospitality industry, she went on to study wine, which led her to London and New York working for well-known companies such as Majestic Wine and Chambers Street Wines. After founding SOMA VINES in Berlin, which started as an importing and distributing company in 2018, then further developed into a winemaking project with Antoine. Their first vintage was 2020.
"We have close to 3 hectares of organic vines that we rent in Rheinhessen and we buy grapes from Weingut Nägele in Baden. We work with people who share the same philosophy and grow organic and biodynamic grapes in the vineyard. In the cellar, we work low intervention. Spontaneous fermentation, no fining, no filtration and no to low added SO2 in the wines."
